Geoff Bakewell is both Professor of Ancient Mediterranean Studies and the current L. Palmer Brown Professor of Interdisciplinary Humanities.  He also directs the Search for Values in the Light of Western History and Religion, the college’s signature interdisciplinary humanities program.  He holds a Ph.D. in classical philology from Brown University, and has published widely on Greek drama, the Athenian democracy, Plato, and classical reception.  His most recent book is Aeschylus′ Suppliant Women: The Tragedy of Immigration (University of Wisconsin Press, 2013). In 2006 he received the Award for Excellence in College Teaching from the Classical Association of the Middle West and South.
